Literature Text

It was all that little kid's fault. That little kid and his stupid little red ball. He had been playing outside in his yard in front of his house with his younger sister, just before the incident. They were gleefully kicking the bright red ball back and forth, when the little boy missed, and the ball rolled right past him and into the street. The foolish child turned and immediately ran after it, not looking for any traffic on the busy street, his eyes focused only on that bright red sphere that was just out of his grasp. The bus driver saw the child and swerved, not even looking to see if anyone happened to be walking on the sidewalk where they had decided to drive instead. But all of that didn't really matter. The bus hadn't hurt me as I thought it would. In fact, I believe I did more damage to it. As I put my arms out to shield my face and try to brace my self for the deadly impact, the bus hit, ever so gently (or so it seemed to me), and bounced backward. The good thing about this fact was that the small boy and his ball were completely unharmed. The same, however, could not be said for the bus. I lowered my arms and took in the scene around me: the bus, about ten feet away from me, with it's front end all smashed in looking as if it had just run into a huge tree; the people on the bus, especially the driver, all staring at me as if I was an alien;  and the little boy, still standing in the middle of the street, holding his ball tightly in both hands as his little sister watched from the yard, her mouth hanging open in shock. I wasn't sure what my own expression looked like, for I had about a million thoughts running through my head at once. Most of them revolved around the same idea: Why wasn't I dead? I tried not to panic as I tried to understand what had just happened. The growing, the strength, that I could take, but what was this? What was happening to me? I must be going crazy. There is no other possibility. Perhaps whatever hit me in Mega Mind's lair really knocked me out good and this was all a dream. That bus should have flattened me out, splattered me across the ground, but here I stand now, not a scratch on me, not a pain in my body. I can hear the people on the bus murmuring and people in nearby houses opening their curtains to see what was going on. I could hear every movement around me clearly and quite loudly, I had never noticed before how loud our city was! I marveled for a moment at the sounds of the curtains opening around me. How was it that I could hear it all so clearly? I looked down at my hands, arms, torso, body in general, expecting blood, bruises, and gore but there was none. I had barely even felt the bus hit, why would it leave a mark? But why did I not feel the force of it in the first place? I was dazed and confused, mentally a disaster but physically unharmed. I heard the sound of tiny plastic soled shoes on pavement, and I turned to see the small boy slowly approaching me, his brown eyes wide with a mixture of joy and fear. "Thank you for saving me." He whispered, but the sound was loud and clear in my ears. I glanced down at him, and then back to the bus, then back to the kid. Had I done that? I thought I had been a victim in this as much as he. "What is your name?"

"Roxanne." I managed to mumble.

He gave me a bit of a confused look. "Doesn't sound very superhero-y to me, but you're still my hero." He smiled up at me and then turned and walked back to his yard to play with his sister.

Super hero? Is that what I was? Could I be? But how? When? Why? I don't understand. Yesterday I was perfectly normal, and now all this, and for it to all start in front of Bernard! Oh, Bernard! I suddenly got an idea: Bernard was an expert on all things related to Metro Man and Mega Mind, so that kind of made him an expert on super heroes too, right? I turned and ran back into my house to grab my fone. I was in my appartment in less than a second. How had I arrived here so fast? This entire situation boggled my mind. I found my fone and texted Bernard. Meet @ library . Then I figured I should probly add RR at the end so he'd know who it was from. He responded quickly with, Cant wait. lol. :) I smiled and left for the library. Again, I arrived almost instantly. I sat down at a table and waited. About fifteen minutes later, I see a tall, adorable, green-eyed geek come walking casually in. I smile and wave him over.

***************(This next part of the story will be told by Sally)***************

I stood at the back of the library, quietly watching the scene before me. Roxanne was sitting at a table waiting for someone a few feet away, but she did not see me because I was behind a row of books. I was hiding here on purpose, trying to get a good look at my friend. I was pretty sure it was her, the face and the hair was right, but the rest of the body was all wrong. Those muscules, and those boobs! I looked down at my own. How pitifully small they looked compared to hers! I was usually so proud of them; they were my number one weapon when going after boys and now this! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Hadn't my chest always been the biggest of of group? Where did those enormous things come from? And why? Is that her plan for winning over my ex? A full body makeover? Trust me, Roxy, it won't work with him. Bernard's not a typical guy. He's only interested in one thing: books. And other smart stuff. Still, I have always found him quite attractive, if only he would loose those nerdy glasses and let me stare into those giant emerald eyes! I shook my head to try and clear it. Bernard was approaching. There was something different about him. Not physically, like Roxanne, but internally. The way he walked, talked, and acted. It was all so cheerfull, happy, almost... excited to see her face. He had never shown any of those emotions to me. Not even when I tried to kiss him. No, he backed away and wanted to get back to telling me about whatever borring thing it was that he had learned that day. I watch as they sit down and start talking. The conversation seems intense, with both parties moving their arms wildly as they talked (well, truthfully this was much more Roxanne then Bernard, but still!). He was so interested in everything she said, so intrigued by it. What was it that was so amazing about her? Was she really so much better than me? I gasped as she looked in my direction and started to get up. They were coming to look at books! I had to hide! I looked around  despretely, trapped at the end of the hall of bookcases. There was a chair here, and that seemed my only hope. I dashed behind it, hoping to hear some of the conversation and not be seen.

"...glad you could make it." Roxanne was saying. I peeked my head out a bit to see what was going on. They were both standing at the far end of the isle, each looking at a different side of the walls of bookcases. I sat back behind the chair.

"I heard this was a good one." I heard Bernard say.
"Megamind Unmasked". Roxanne read off the cover. "By Bernard Johnston. You wrote this?"

"I did?" he asked, then "Oh, I mean, I did! Yes, it's very good." Roxanne laughed.

Was he actually joking? I didn't think Bernard knew the definition of the word. He was always so monotone with me, with everyone it seemed. His life had been stuck in borring mode and now... how could he have changed so drastically? Hadn't I just seen him last week at the grocery store, still as gloomy as ever? I couldn't understand it. As they talked, I heard something I had never heard before: Bernard was laughing. I poked my head out enough to see. Yes, it was definately him. There was no one else around. I tried to focus in on their conversation as I went back into my hiding spot.

"Can you believe this is really happening?" Roxanne was saying.

"I can't wait to start helping you." Bernard replied.

"It'll be best to find out as much as we can first."

What on earth were they talking about?

"Take a look at this."

"Metro Man: The Beginning. Wow! This should be really helpful! Thanks, Bernard." I could tell she was smiling. After hours of looking for books about super heroes, supernatural things, and powers, they finally went to the checkout, each with about ten books on hand. Knowing Bernard, he'd probably have them all read tonight. Although I was starting to think I didn't actually know Bernard. Not this Bernard. This Bernard was much different. I slowly followed them outside, making sure I wasn't seen. I watched as Bernard waved goodbye to Roxanne, and she embraced him in a hug and disappeared. I thought I saw her turn to walk away, but that was it. Where had she gone so fast? How had she done it? Why? I walked a little closer to Bernard. I was about to say something, when he looked at his watch, pressed a button, and vanished. In his place stood a tall and slender blue-skinned villian. If I hadn't just witnessed it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. I gasped, and then quickly hid behind a bush as he turned to see what had made the noise. Surely he could hear my heart hammering so loudly in my chest! He was going to come find me and kill me for knowing his secret! But alas, he just turned and started to walk casually down the street in the opposite direction of Roxanne's place. I snuck out from behind the bush to watch him. People screamed and ran when they saw him but he didn't seem to notice. He was walking along merrily, without a care in the world. No wonder Bernard was so different! But if Megamind was Bernard, then what had he done with the real Bernard? Since Megamind seemed completely oblivious to the rest of the world around him, I followed him more openly as he waltzed down the street. It probably looked a bit weird to some people, but they were mostly pre-occupied with running away so they probably didn't even notice me. I followed him all the way to his secret hideout. He came up to a brick wall and just walked right through it. I marveled at it a moment, then stuck my hand out to test it. It was as if my eyes were lying to me. I could see the wall, but all I could feel was air. I stood there for a long time, unsure of what to do. My heart was racing with fear, but I gathered up all the courage I had and stepped inside.

NEXT CHAPTER
:bulletblack: So I wanted to get Sally's perspective in here because she will become an important character soon. Don't worry, this is still Roxanne's Story. However, there may be a few times when we get to see her side too :D
:bulletblack: Thanks for reading!! Hope you enjoyed this chapter and please don't be afraid to leave comments!! :D
:bulletblack: If you find any mistakes, please tell me and I'll make sure I fix them ASAP ^_^

So I had the idea to do a picture of Roxanne as Titan - not the "Tighten" of the movie but as if she had been the one who had gotten struck with the bullet that contained Metro Man's powers. I thought it would be a cool concept to think about and indeed I was encouraged by others to write out this story. So here it is.
